Where is Nahavand?

Nahavand (Persian: نهاوند, also Romanized as Nahavand, Nehāvend, and Nīhāvand)is a city in and capital of Nahavand County, Hamadan Province, Iran. It is located south of Hamadan, east of Malayer and northwest of Borujerd. Nahavand is one of the oldest existing cities in Iran.

NAHAVAND rugs and carpets have nomadic and geometric patterns that usually consist of a single medallion set in a background full of small motifs surrounding the medallion.

The quality of NAHAVAND rugs is high. Because of the type of wool the weavers use, NAHAVAND rugs and carpets are extremely durable and shiny.

Size & Shapes: NAHAVAND rugs and carpets are usually small (2 x 3 to 4 x 6 feet) due to the use of horizontal looms. It is very difficult for weavers to make a large size carpet on horizontal looms.

Texture: Very soft, shiny wool; thin, thick pile.

Foundation: Warps are mostly cotton; wefts are either cotton or wool.

Knots: Inspection of the back of the carpet is important because the weavers in NAHAVAND use flat-woven knots.
